David Firman

Musical Director

David Firman was educated at Trinity College, London and Magdalene College, Cambridge. He began his career as Principal Conductor for Jesus Christ Superstar. Since then he has worked extensively in the West End, most notably Godspell, Fire Angel, Chicago and Evita. He opened the Churchill Theatre, Bromley with a new musical Mr Polly. He was also responsible for the orchestrations on this production and for Cabaret at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield. His other work for the Crucible as either MD, arranger or composer includes The Glass Menagerie, Good Fun and The Wiz. He also arranged the vocal score for Ned Sherrin’s Only In America and orchestrated the musical Rock Nativity.

He works widely in television and radio, and is Music Director of the Week Ending series and Marks in his Diary with Alfred Marks. He has done orchestrations for various television plays and wrote a number of songs for the series Grange Hill and has also conducted the Dame Edna Everage LP – The Sound of Edna.
